Signal is nonetheless a consumers' solution so this is an unreasonable and unnecessary removal of features. When I trust a device I want my (personal) data transferred and that is per se no security issue as long as the channel is secured, which is that is kind of the whole point?! Having users transfer data to untrusted devices is a security issue but even that is personal decision, not looked at in regards of professional data, but with that you often have security policies you can establish, so different set of reasoning and possibilities. So it is "better security" to only transfer current data w/o option for historical data. There is absolutely no security improvement in removing a feature that is obviously available real time. Users try to replace missing features by finding workarounds which is a critical issue for security incidents. Removing the wrong features is in itself the opening of security deterioration.
